Rankion sends you emails when something has finished in the background or needs your attention. Not every one of them is useful to everyone. You can turn them off by kind, in two ways: straight from an email, without signing in, or in Settings, whenever you are logged in anyway.

The six kinds

Every email belongs to exactly one category. Three of them you can turn off, three you cannot.

Category What it contains Can be turned off
Reports Weekly summaries, finished table exports, Killer-Reports yes
Tracking Alerts Visibility drops in AI answers, completed tracking runs, Site-Monitor and SEO-Suite alerts yes
Job Results Results of finished tasks: pipelines, competitor analyses, content audits, scores yes
Billing Invoices and payout statements no
Security Password, email, and two-factor changes no
Team Invitations and member events no

The last three stay on, and that's on purpose. You have to receive an invoice, you want to be warned about a changed password setting, and a team invitation without an email wouldn't be an invitation. That's why these emails don't carry an unsubscribe link either — a link that can't turn anything off is worse than no link at all.

Way 1: right from the email

At the bottom of every email you can turn off, there is an unsubscribe link. You don't need your account password or to sign in for this; the link is signed and only valid for your address.

Clicking it opens a page that asks you and doesn't do anything yet. It shows which kind you are about to unsubscribe from, what it contains, and what else is currently active for you. Only the button on that page actually turns it off.

This intermediate page isn't a detour, it's the reason the unsubscribe is reliable: many corporate mailboxes have a security service pre-fetch every link in an incoming email before you ever see it. If that fetch alone unsubscribed you, you'd be unsubscribed without ever having clicked.

On the same page you can also unsubscribe from all kinds that can be turned off at once. Billing, Security, and Team are not affected by this.

Your email program's one-click button

Gmail, Apple Mail, and Outlook show their own unsubscribe button at the top of our emails, next to the sender. That button belongs to the email program, not to us. It works without an intermediate page: one click, and the kind this email came from is turned off. Rankion supports the mechanism email providers designed for this (RFC 8058, "One-Click").

Way 2: in Settings

Under Settings → Notifications you'll see a matrix: the three categories you can turn off, each with two toggles.

  • Email — whether this kind goes to your inbox.
  • In-app — whether it appears in the bell top right.

Both toggles are independent. So you can take the weekly summary out of your inbox and still keep it in the bell.

The three categories that can't be turned off are listed too, as locked rows. They're shown so you can see what exists, not so you can adjust them.

The default is: everything on. Only what you set differently from that gets saved. If you never touch anything, you have no entry at all — that keeps the setting lean and makes it easy to change the defaults later without side effects.

What you still get after turning something off

Turning something off applies to the whole category, not to individual emails. One example, because it often surprises people: Tracking Alerts covers not just the "tracking run finished" notice but also the critical visibility signal — the email that arrives when your brand is mentioned noticeably less often in AI answers. Turning off the category turns off both.

The reverse also holds: what you've turned off stays off. No kind switches itself back on after a while.

Error notices about your own tasks keep going out, even if you've unsubscribed from Reports. If an export fails, you need to know about it; a suppressed error notice would look like a job stuck in limbo.

Via the API

If you want to read or set your preferences programmatically:

Method Endpoint Description
GET /v1/account/notification-preferences The full matrix, with defaults already resolved, including the locked categories
PUT /v1/account/notification-preferences Sets the preferences; locked categories are ignored, not rejected

Both are tied to your account, not to a project. For authentication, see Authentication.

And if something still arrives anyway?

There are two possibilities, and they look the same from the outside.

First: the email belongs to one of the three categories that can't be turned off. Then it's not an error — check the table above.

Second: it really is a kind you unsubscribed from. In that case, write to us at info@rankion.ai and tell us the subject line and roughly when it arrived. We log every outgoing email with recipient, class, and timestamp, and can use that to see which path triggered it.

There is also a hard block below the categories. If an address is on it, nothing goes out to it anymore — not even an invoice or a report. Only two things still get through, and both only because you trigger them yourself at that moment: a password-reset email and a confirmation email for a new address. Without this exception, you could never sign in again after a block. We only set this block on explicit request, because it does exactly what it says.
