Setting up AI Visibility Tracking

Classic rankings (positions 1-10 on Google) matter less as more users ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Gemini directly. AI Visibility Tracking measures whether your brand even appears in those answers — and in what voice.

01

Activate AI Visibility Tracking

In the sidebar under "AI Visibility", click "+ Start Tracking". Choose the project you want to track — tracking is project-scoped, you can run different setups per project.

02

Define brand keywords

Brand keywords are the queries where you want to be mentioned in AI answers. Three types you should track:

  • Direct brand queries — "What is Rankion?", "Rankion vs. Surfer SEO" → you should ALWAYS appear.
  • Category queries — "Best SEO tools 2026", "AI content generator comparison" → most important growth KPI.
  • Problem queries — "How to rank in ChatGPT?", "What is GEO?" → top-of-funnel visibility.
03

Select engines

Rankion queries four AI engines in parallel: ChatGPT (GPT-5), Perplexity, Claude (Opus 4), Google Gemini. You can disable individual engines to save credits — but we recommend all four, since answer patterns differ significantly.

⚠️

Heads up

2 credits per keyword × engine × run. 20 keywords × 4 engines × weekly = 640 credits/month. Plan this before setup.

04

Set monitoring frequency

  • Daily — only for active campaigns with fast iterations.
  • Weekly — the default. AI models don't reindex daily, more is waste.
  • Monthly — sufficient for stable sites with constant brand presence.
05

Interpret results

The dashboard shows three core KPIs per keyword:

  • Mention Rate — how often you appear (0-100%). Target: >50% on direct queries, >20% on category queries.
  • Sentiment — neutral, positive, negative. Negative mentions are red alerts — investigate the source immediately.
  • Position — if mentioned, where? First mention > later mention.
06

Close content gaps

When mention rate is <30% on an important keyword, click "GEO Recommendations". Rankion analyzes the sources cited by AI engines and shows you concretely which content is missing — e.g. a comparison page, wiki entry, or FAQ section.

Result

Result: A weekly-updated dashboard showing exactly where you're visible in AI engines and where you need to add content.
